This meeting we had an extremely great time listening in on Mrs.Smithson's insight on her field of work as a healthcare administrator and what life at Belmont Village looks like. We got to hear a lot of funny and interesting stories about various elderly people that came to the nursing home as well as help on certain career paths students will be taking in the future. A special thanks to Mrs.Smithson for coming out to the HOSA meeting as well as providing for our Clinal course at school. This Thursday, we got to engage all of our members in some Take 10 CPR lessons and got them more informed about the practice as well as providing some CPR information. It was very fun small session for all of our members and officers. Special thanks to the CERT team for giving our members the Take 10 lessons. Make sure to tune in on February 7th for our next meeting and get as much points as you can by the end of your senior year!
On January 15th, all the HOSA students as well as other students at Westlake got to spend a whole day and do activities with trauma surgeons, police officers, safety advocates etc. It was an extremely specialized and fun experience for all the students. There were driving simulations, gun safety presentations, question and answer sessions and much more going on throughout the whole day. Thank you to everyone who came to educate us high school students and hope everyone had a good winter break! Next meeting starts next week on Thursday January 24th. Be there!
On November 29th in the NGC Library, we got to listen to a neurologist answer all of the other HOSA members' questions about her field as well as just medical-related questions in general. We learned about the importance of sleep and how to reduce tiredness if you didn't know how to already. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break! We only have two more full weeks of school until finals week and then our Winter Break! Remember to join our Google Classroom to get more information about the club and various events.
This meeting, we got to have the privilege of hearing stories about various patients that Dr.Blaydon, an ocular plastic surgeon, has had over the years. He talked to the HOSA members about the road he took to become a surgeon as well as what he did serving in the Iraq war. It is our last meeting before the one-week long Thanksgiving Break! On November 1st, HOSA had its moulage meeting where we all painting bruises, burns, bullet wounds etc. on each other. It was a different take than what we normally do on meetings, but was super fun nevertheless. Our fundraiser of water bottles and bracelets was also collected and we got more information out about competitions coming up. On October 18th we had our pumpkin painting meeting with all of our members! Everyone did their best decorating and drawing their pumpkins all while competing with each other. We also introduced our fundraising event for this year which included selling tumblers/water bottles as well as bracelets. Everyone needs to raise at least $60 this year in fundraising money! Please drop by Mrs.Rohrbough's room to grab the materials if you haven't already.
In the chap room, we had an attendance of over 80 students! Mrs.Stephanie Bryant was our guest speaker for this meeting. She was able to inform all our members really well about her job as a CRNA. We got to learn about her journey becoming a CRNA and how it wasn't as linear as most people would think. We want to thank Mrs.Bryant for her time and being able to come on such short notice! With over 40 students in attendance from Westlake we all went to James Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas. We all got to meet our HOSA area officers as well as our fellow competitors from the other schools. After getting split into multiple different groups, we all went and did our own activities with our own groups filled with students from different schools. It was a super fun experience for everyone to be apart of! Remember to sign up for our slack with the link on our homepage!
On September 20th, we had our competitive events meeting in the Chap Court. An attendance of around 100 kids! We had stations setup for multiple events that HOSA offers and representatives knowledgeable about each event. All the new and returning HOSA members were able to do an early signup for all the events with their friends. Thank you to all the students that came as well as signed up for events.
